Devil Men Turn Back Bears for Key Conference Win

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College men's basketball team had nine players score and five reach double-figures as they topped visiting Ursinus College, 86-72, on Saturday afternoon.

 

The Bears jumped out to a 9-4 lead early before the Red Devils answered to take the lead at the 12 minute mark. They used an 11-0 run hold an 18-12 advantage, and would lead by as many as 13 late in the first half. The Bears cut the lead to nine at the break with Dickinson in front, 39-30.

 

Each team hit four three-pointers in the first half with four different Devils connecting from long range.

 

The Devils held the advantage as the teams traded baskets in the opening minutes of the second half. The Bears cut the deficit to 50-46 with 12:39 to play in regulation. A 14-7 run by Dickinson, stretched the lead to 64-53 at the 7:54 mark.

 

The Devils played solid defense down the stretch to secure the win, adding a pair of dunks from sophomore Chris Barsanti (Hummelstown, Pa./Tilton School) and first-year Tucker Landy (Durham, Conn./Xavier).

 

Senior Matt Dolan (Chalfont, Pa./St. Joe's Prep) scored 15 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the floor and a 6-of-8 performance from the line, adding six rebounds. Barsanti tallied 15 points as well, hitting 6-of-7 shots and recording a pair of steals.

 

Landy went 4-for-6 and hit 5-of-7 free throws for 13 points. First-year Adam Honig (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) added 12 points and three assists while classmate Brian Gerney (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) chipped in with 11 points and a pair of assists. Both Honig and Gerney were 4-for-4 from the line as well.

 

Jon Ward led Ursinus (2-6, 1-4) with 21 points while Matt Hilton added 20 points behind four three-pointers.

 

The Red Devils shot 86 percent (24-for-28) from the line as a team and held a slim 27-26 advantage on the boards.

 

Dickinson improves to 5-4 overall and 4-1 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils are off next week before hosting Lycoming College on Sunday, December 19th at 1:00 pm.
