Extra Timeout Costs Choctaws at UT-Dallas, 56-54

RICHARDSON, TX - The Mississippi College men's basketball team lost a heartbreaker with a 56-54 defeat at the hands of the University of Texas at Dallas in the UTD Activity Center on Monday night.

With the loss, the Choctaws fall to 9-9 in the American Southwest Conference and sit one spot out of the ASC Tournament.

Junior Pierre Hadley made a three-pointer with :09 seconds remaining to tie the game at 54-54.  The Choctaws intercepted the ensuing inbounds pass, but junior Marlon Ester called a timeout the Choctaws did not have and was assessed a technical foul in the process.

Curtis Davis of the Comets nailed two free throws with :03.5 seconds remaining and Hadley's three as time expired was off the mark as UTD held on to win.

The Choctaws trailed the Comets for most of the first half, falling behind 26-18 at the half.  The Choctaws opened strong in the second half tying the game at 42-42 with seven minutes remaining.

The Comets moved their lead to 54-51 before Hadley hit the game-tying three-pointer in the last 10 seconds.

MC was led by senior Ken Black, who led all scorers with 18 points on 7-10 shooting.  No other Choctaws was in double-figures as senior Chad Jones finished with nine points.

Chris Barnes led the Comets with 12 points on 5-9 shooting.

Both teams struggled from the floor as MC went 21-52 (40%), while UTD went 20-48 (42%).

The Choctaws will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Marshall, TX to face East Texas Baptist at 3:00 p.m.
