Upended in Brooklyn: Lightning Can't Find the Range in 83-61 Loss

More news about: Lehman

One game after shooting the lights out in its statement double digit win over Baruch College, Lehman couldn't buy a bucket in falling to Medgar Evers College 83-61 on Friday night.

The Lightning shot 31 percent from the field and suffered from a team-wide three-point stroke missing in action that resulted in a 2-for-17 performance from beyond the stripe.

Trailing just 40-36 at halftime because of a balanced attack that featured nine different players get in the scoring column, the Lightning was done in by its inability to put the ball in the hoop with any consistency, hitting on only six baskets over the final 20 minutes.

Despite its poor shooting, Lehman was able to hang tough in the second half's early going as Chukwuma Ndukwe and Jonathan DeJesus each converted on several baskets and free throws. When DeJesus converted a pair from the line with 12:18 to go, the Lightning trailed 58-49.

But Medgar's Winston Douglas took the game into his own hands scoring eight of the Cougars next 12 points. His dunk with 7:06 remaining pushed the lead to 70-54, after which the Lightning never threatened again.

In the loss, Lehman was led by DeJesus who notched 19 points and 13 rebounds. Sharpshooter Samuel Batista never got into the flow, finishing with 12 points on 4-of-14 shooting. One game removed from his 22-point second half against Baruch, Victor Garcia had trouble finding the range as well, totaling six points but grabbing 10 rebounds.

Medgar Evers had five players in double figures led by Jovan Deare with 23 points and 15 rebounds. James Gilmore (17 points), Jarrel Deare (12 points), Tony Sims (12 points) and Douglas (10 points, 12 rebounds) rounded out the quintet.

Lehman is back in action on January 19th when it faces Brooklyn College on the road.
