(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - Five Saints reached double-figures as the Thomas More College men's basketball team defeated Waynesburg University, 105-82, tonight (Wednesday, February 9, 2011) in a Presidents' Athletics Conference (PAC) game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 12-10 overall and 8-3 in the PAC. With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 5-17 overall and 2-10 in the PAC.
Thomas More jumped out to an early 13-4 lead when freshman point guard D'Carlo Hayes (Louisville, Ky./Male) made a lay-up with 14:51 to play in the opening half. The Yellow Jackets answered with a 4-2 run to cut the lead to 15-8 with 13:46 to play in the first half when Steven Iser made a jumper. The Saints closed out the half on a 35-21 run capped by jumper by senior shooting guard Aaron Miller (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) with three-seconds to play in the half to take a 50-29 halftime lead.
The Saints opened the second half on a 31-16 run to increase the lead to 81-45 when junior shooting guard Todd Krohman (Florence, Ky./Boone County) made a three-pointer with 10:54 to play in the game. Waynesburg closed out the game on a 37-24 run, but it wasn't enough as Thomas More won the game, 105-82.
Reaching double-figures for the Saints were junior point guard Daniel Whelan (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) with a team-high 14 points, Miller with 13, Krohman and junior center Colt Stafford (Groveport, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) with 12 points each and senior shooting guard Brian Muse (Bethel, Ohio/Bethel) with 10. Miller led the team on the boards with a game-high eight rebounds, while Whelan led the team in assists with eight.
Thomas More will travel to Bethany, West Virginia on Saturday (February 12, 2011) as it plays Bethany College in its final regular season road game. The game will tip-off at 4 p.m. inside the Hummel Field House.
