BEVERLY, Mass. -- The University of New England closed the first half with a 20-8 run and went on to cruise to a 72-48 The Commonwealth Coast Conference men's basketball road win over Endicott College Tuesday evening at MacDonald Gymnasium.
Junior Ryan Knotek (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) paced four UNE players in double figures with 16 points. First-year Charles Fenner (Bronx. N.Y.) scored 15 and hauled in a game-high nine rebounds. Senior Chas Rentrope (Peoria, Ariz.) finished with 14 points on 6-for-9 shooting, and junior Marcus Winn (Austin, Texas) tallied nine of his 11 points after halftime.
First-year Tyler Burkhart (Cromwell, Conn.) was the lone Endicott player in double figures with 11 points.
With the score tied at 19 and 7:25 remaining in the first stanza, the Nor'easters reeled off a 13-1 spurt to grab a 32-20 lead. Rentrope had three buckets during the pivotal run.
Big Blue pushed its lead to 20 (51-31) at the outset of the second half as Winn accounted for nine points during a five-minute stretch. The outcome was never in question from there, with the Nor'easters pouring it on to open a lead that crested at 29 (68-39) in the closing minutes.
Despite a sizeable height disparity, UNE owned a 40-26 advantage on the backboards and matched the Gulls with 24 points in the paint. Big Blue shot a robust 50.9 percent (28 of 55) from the floor, including a 9-for-21 effort (42.9 percent) from three-point land.
The victory was the Nor'easters' fourth consecutive triumph over Endicott, which dipped to 14-8 overall and 6-4 in conference play.
UNE (4-18, 2-8 TCCC) returns to the hardwood Saturday with a 3 p.m. road contest at Colby-Sawyer College.
