Men’s Basketball: Cadets Pick Up Second GNAC Win, Defeat Mustangs 81-70

NEWTON, Mass. – The Cadets grabbed their second conference win of the season on Wednesday night when they defeated the Mustangs of Mount Ida College, 81-70.

Junior Antonio Davis provided his fifth double-double in as many games to help lead Norwich in the victory. Shooting 9-of-17 and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line, Davis netted 22 points and made 10 boards against the Mustangs. He also recorded one assist and one block in the action.

Senior Jaren Jeffcoat tallied 12 points, as he shot 5-of-8 on the night and sank one free-throw and one 3-pointer. Jeffcoat stands less than 50 points away from his 1,000th career point.

Junior captain Josh Cabrera assisted his teammates on five occasions, while netting 11 points of his own and making one steal. Cabrera netted two 3-pointers and was 3-of-4 from the line.

Also contributing 11 points to the winning score was sophomore Ryan Williams, who shot 4-of-6, netting two free-throws and one 3-pointer.

Norwich (6-7, 2-4 GNAC) held a 10-point advantage at the half, leading the Mustangs 39-29. They continued to put the pressure on, as their shooting continued to improve in the second half. They sank 72.2-percent of their free-throws and upped their baskets by an even nine-percent inside the arc, edging the Mustangs out by one-point in their second half effort.

The Cadets will be in Andrews Hall for their next conference game, playing host to Emerson College on Saturday at 3 p.m.
