Saints Fall, 65-63, to Geneva On a Shot at the Buzzer

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The Thomas More College men's basketball team fell, 65-63, to Geneva College tonight (Wednesday, February 2, 2011) at the Connor Convocation Center on a shot at the buzzer.

With their loss, the Saints fall to 11-9 on the season.  With their win, the Golden Tornadoes improve to 15-5 overall.

Geneva took an early 11-5 lead when Bryan Hill made a three-pointer with 15:16 to play in the first half.  Thomas More came right back with a 32-14 run capped by a lay-up by freshman point guard Spencer Berlekamp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings) to take a 37-25 lead with 2:34 to play in the opening half.  The Golden Tornadoes closed out the half on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 37-31 at halftime when Drew Santarsiero made a three-pointer with 1:24 to play in the opening half.

The Golden Tornadoes opened the second half on a 13-5 run to take a 44-42 lead with 9:51 to play in the game when Richard Colick made two free-throws.  The Saints answered with a 9-2 run to take a 51-46 lead with 7:51 to play in the game when sophomore point guard Ryan Hamm (Maysville, Ky./Mason County) made a three-pointer.  Geneva put together a 17-10 run to take a 63-61 lead when Colick made a three-pointer with 1:57 to play in the game.  Junior center Colt Stafford (Groveport, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) tied the game at 63-63 when he made two free-throws with 51-seconds to play in the game, but Colick made a jumper from the right corner at the buzzer to give the Golden Tornadoes a 65-63 victory.

Thomas More had two players reach double-figure scoring as Stafford had a team-high 18 points and Berlekamp finished with 14.  Senior shooting guard Brian Muse (Bethel, Ohio/Bethel) led the team on the boards with seven rebounds and in blocks with two.  Berlekamp led the team in assists with four and steals with three.

The Saints return to action on Saturday (February 5) when they travel to Washington, Pennsylvania to play Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Washington & Jefferson College at 2 p.m. at the Henry Memorial Center.
