Men's Basketball Picks Up Second CAC Win Over Salisbury, 82-76 on the Road

SALISBURY, Md. - Four of the five starters for the Stevenson men's basketball team scored in double figures as they combined for 79 points as the Mustangs snapped a nine-game CAC losing streak and an eight-game road skid with an 82-76 victory over Salisbury Monday at the Maggs Physical Activities Center.

The win was the second for Stevenson (6-14, 2-9 CAC) against the Sea Gulls this season after it scored the final 17 points off a 70-64 victory at home on November 23.

Senior Greg Woody (Baltimore/Mount Saint Joseph) scored a game-high 21 points, 15 of which came on five three-pointers, while he added six assists. Sophomore Andrew Bishop (Lothian/Southern) totaled a career-high 20 points while sophomore Danny Murphy (Severn/Glen Burnie) had 18 and fresman Joe Hindle (Clarksville/River Hill) added 12 on four three-pointers.

The Mustangs' fifth starter, freshman Stefon McCray (Baltimore/Archbishop Curley) had eight points. The only other player to score in the win was sophomore Laron Knight (Waldorf/Thomas Stone) who had three points.

Salisbury (7-12, 2-8 CAC) led by as many 10 in the first half, 17-7 with 13:39 remaining before Stevenson cut the lead to one with 8:33 left following a 10-1 run.

However, the Sea Gulls pushed the advantage back to eight by scoring the game's next seven points, but the Mustangs took a two-point lead at the half with a 13-5 run over the final 6:38. Hindle scored all 12 of his points in the opening half as he was 4-of-5 from behind the arc.

Stevenson took a nine-point advantage after scoring 10 of the first 13 points to start the second half before Salisbury took a 52-51 lead with 12:38 left.

The Mustangs, who were 16-of-27 from the floor for 59.7 percent in the second half, led 59-58 with 9:38 to play and stretched their lead to as many as 11 with 4:17 remaining after a 15-5 run.

Stevenson finished the game 20-of-24 from the free throw line, including 13-for-16 in the second half, while totaling a season-high 10 three-pointers. The team also made 10 in the first meeting with the Sea Gulls.

Salisbury's Chris McGrew had 21 points and six rebounds while Mike Maczko had 18 points and seven rebounds.

Stevenson returns to action on Wednesday with a CAC home contest versus Wesley. Game time is at 6:00 p.m., on Faculty/Staff Spirit Night. There will be prizes, giveaways and free admission for faculty and staff and their families when they show their SU One card.
