Weedon's 3-point shots help Gallaudet sink Cazenovia

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. – From start to finish the Gallaudet University men's basketball team controlled Saturday's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) road contest against Cazenovia College as the Bison won 85-71.

The victory gives the Bison (11-7, 8-4 NEAC) eight conference victories which is the most the Buff and Blue has posted in a regular-season. Gallaudet is gunning for its first winning record since the 2005-06 season when it posted a 14-12 mark. That same season the Bison went 7-7 in Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) play, which was the previous best conference wins record for GU. The 11 wins also ties the most in a season for Coach Jeb Barber, now in his fourth season for the Bison.

Senior guard Luther Weedon (Walkersville, Md.) and junior guard Brandon McMillan (Frederick, Md.) set the tempo in the first half for the Bison. Weedon made 4-of-5 3-point shots en route to 14 points while McMillan scored 12 of his 19 points. Weedon finished with a game and career-high 28 points as he converted 7-of-11 shots from 3-point range. McMillan added seven rebounds in the win. Gallaudet jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead and took a 44-35 advantage into halftime.

GU had three other players reach double figures in points or rebounds. Junior guard Tony Tatum (Gardendale, Ala.) had a complete game as he scored 13 points, grabbed six rebounds, passed out three assists and made two steals. Sophomore forward Danny Kelly (Strongsville, Ohio) came off the bench to score 10 points to go with five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Junior forward Layton Seeber (Champaign, Ill.) was impressive on the defensive boards as he made a game-high 14 rebounds, all on the defensive end. He also added six points.

Cazenovia (3-14, 3-9) was led by Andrew Jensen's double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds along with Cameron Smith's team-high 19 points and Darnell Sampson's 18 points.

GU shot 46.3 percent from the field and nearly 78 percent from the free-throw line. Gallaudet sweeps the season series with the Wildcats as it beat Cazenovia 75-49 on January 16.

The Bison remain on the road tomorrow (Sunday, January 30) to face NEAC foe Morrisville State College at 2 p.m.
