ASHLAND, VA – Brandon Braxton led four Yellow Jackets in double figures with a game-high 17 points as No. 9 Randolph-Macon topped visiting Roanoke 90-53 in ODAC Men's Basketball action Thursday night in Ashland.
R-MC has now won 13 games in a row to improve its record to 17-2 overall and 10-1 in the ODAC. Roanoke falls to 8-9 overall and 4-5 in the league.
Joining Braxton in double-digits was Adam Desgain with 16 points off bench for R-MC, while Calvin Croskey had 13 and Danny Jones chipped in with 11. Jones and Desgain helped the Jackets' reserves out score Roanoke's bench 51-28 on the night.
Jamaal Powell grabbed six rebounds for R-MC, while Kevin Voelkel, Jones and Braxton each snared five boards to help R-MC to a 41-28 edge on the glass. The Yellow Jackets held RC to 35.4% shooting on the evening, allowing the Maroons to convert just 19-of-54 field goal attempts.
Corey Poindexter led the Maroons with 12 points, while Logan Singleton added 11 in a losing effort for the Maroons.
R-MC never trailed in the game as they started the contest with a 14-4 run. After a pair of Felix free-throws made the score 23-19, R-MC reeled off the next 11 points, taking a 34 -19 lead on a three-pointer by Thomas Scheeler and would eventually take a 44-24 advantage into the locker room at intermission.
R-MC maintained a double-digit lead and with the score 47-29, the Yellow Jackets put together a 20-8 run, pulling ahead 67-37 on a pair of free-throws by Braxton.
Randolph-Macon returns to action on Saturday when the travel to Guilford for a key ODAC game. Tip-off is slated for 3:00 p.m. in Greensboro.
