BOX SCORE

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Jeffrey Robinson (Granby, Conn.) totaled 21 of his game-high 24 points in the second half and junior Matt Carr (Somersworth, N.H.) finished a rebound short of his sixth double-double of the season as host WPI defeated Babson 67-47 in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's basketball contest played Wednesday night.

The Engineers, who are ranked No. 14 in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25, push their winning streak to nine games and move to 16-3 on the season and 6-0 in conference action.  Babson is now 8-9 overall and 3-3 in NEWMAC play.

Robinson drained all five of his 3-pointers after halftime, including trifectas on three straight possessions that helped highlight a 9-2 WPI spurt in the opening minutes of the second half.  For the night, Robinson canned 9-of-15 shots from the field and 5-of-8 3-pointers.

Carr had a solid all-around game with 17 points, nine rebounds, four blocks, two steals and an assist.  The junior was 5-of-5 from the floor in the first half and canned 8-of-10 shots on the night, including three dunks.

Fernando Perez (Lowell, Mass.), who like Robinson, came off the bench, and tallied eight points and six rebounds.  The duo helped the WPI reserves enjoy a 44-13 scoring edge over their Babson counterparts.  Point guard Jaime Shannon (Lowell, Mass.) shared game-high honors by handing out four assists.

Sophomore Alex Rudolph (Bal Harbor, Fla.) led the Babson charge with 12 points.  Senior captain Matt Zoia (Nashua, N.H.) chipped in with 10 points while junior Kris Noonan (Boothbay Harbor, Maine) added nine rebounds to go along with six points.  Junior captain Matt Florio (Skillman, N.J.) dished out four assists for the Beavers, who as a team only committed 11 turnovers on the night.

Babson opened the game by jumping out to a 13-6 lead behind a pair of 3-pointers from Zoia.  Carr scored two layups to give the Crimson and Gray the lead for good at 24-22 with 3:32 to go in the frame. Rudolph chipped into an Engineer seven point lead with 1:31 left on the clock as he scored a jumper and later a free throw for a 29-25 score at the half.

Both teams open up the second half of the NEWMAC schedule with 3pm road games on Saturday.  WPI ventures to Cambridge to take on MIT while Babson closes out a three-game road trip with a visit to New London, Connecticut to face Coast Guard at 3pm.
