FARMINGTON -- Andrew Duncanson (Portland, Maine) poured in a career-high 36 points to power Thomas College to an 85-75 North Atlantic Conference men's basketball win over University of Maine at Farmington tonight in Dearborn Gymnasium.
The Beavers (6-10 overall, 2-4 in NAC) slated to host Husson University Saturday at 3 p.m. The Terriers (7-7, 4-2) are scheduled to face Maine Maritime Academy in Waterville on Saturday at 4 p.m.
Duncanson made 13 of 22 from the field, including 3-for-3 from beyond the arc, and made all seven of his foul shots. Jarrad DeVaughn (Brockton, Mass.) pitched in 14 points in the win. Duncanson and DeVaughn each had seven rebounds.
Twenty-five of Duncanson's total came in the second half, including 14 points in the final 3:43 to help the Terriers put away the Beavers.
Ben Johnson (Manchester, Maine) turned in a career-high double-double for the Beavers as the freshman tallied 24 points and hauled in 17 rebounds. Eric Taylor (Oakland, Maine) also posted double-digit totals in points (13) and rebounds (11), while DJ Gerrish (Rumford, Maine) chipped in 10 points and seven assists.
Farmington outshot the Terriers 45.8 percent (33-72) to 42 percent (29-69), but made only two 3-pointers to Thomas' 11 and shot a woeful 43.8 percent (7-16) from the charity stripe.
Duncanson and DeVaughn each struck for 11 points in the opening half as the Terriers started the contest with a 21-11 lead over the first eight minutes. The Beavers used a 7-0 stretch to get back into the game and eventually got a 28-27 lead before the Terriers took a 39-36 advantage into the break.
Thomas twice built leads of eight points in the second half with the Beavers chiseling the deficit down to a 63-63 stalemate with 5:16 to play. A Johnson layup gave Farmington a 67-66 edge with 3:55 remaining, but Duncanson followed with a layup and a jumper to give the visitors a 70-67 lead with 3:14 left.
The Beavers stayed within a possession with the score at 75-72 with 1:18 to play, but Duncanson buried a 3-pointer to push the Terriers to a 78-72 advantage. Duncanson drained four of four foul shots as Thomas made seven of eight of its free throws in the final 50 seconds to cap the 85-75 victory.
