DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley College notched its fifth win in a row as the Aggies cruised to a 77-44 triumph over visiting Berkeley College (NJ) in Monday evening's non-conference game.
The win improved Delaware Valley to 11-6 overall. The squad will travel to nearby Penn State-Abington tomorrow night for its final non-conference game of the year. The second half of Freedom Conference play for the first-place Aggies (6-1 league) will begin with a trip to Misericordia University on Saturday.
After giving up the first bucket of the game, Delaware Valley responded with 11 straight – six by Jeremy Beckett and five by Chris Ellis – and never looked back. It built the lead to as many as 22 in the first half before taking a 37-17 advantage into the intermission.
The Aggies led by as many as 37 in the second stanza as their defense forced the Knights into a 17-for-61 shooting performance (27.9%), including a 1-for-15 effort (6.7%) from 3-point land. All 12 players saw at least four minutes of action with 10 hitting the scoring column.
Beckett had 19 points and 10 rebounds in the first half alone, and the sophomore center finished 22 points and 13 boards in just 24 minutes of action. Cam Lee came off the bench for a career-high nine points while Nathan Bollinger, Chris Ellis and Charles Tillman added eight points apiece. James Jones, who was named the Freedom Conference Player of the Week earlier in the day, saw just 22 minutes of action and finished with six points and eight assists.
Berkeley (2-10) was led by Andrew Weber's 10 points. Shane Miller, Brandon Stewart and Gary Williams, Jr. poured in eight points apiece.
