Gwynedd-Mercy Uses Strong Second-Half Start To Down Centenary

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd-Mercy used an 18-3 run to start the second half to fuel a 78-62 win over Centenary College in Monday's CSAC contest.

After taking a 34-34 tie to the break, the Griffins (11-4) came out strong on both the offensive and defensive ends. Gwynedd shot 53% over the final 20 minutes while limiting the Cyclones (5-12) to only seven second-half field goals.

A pair of Gwynedd seniors, Jon Hogga (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) and Jon Crabtree, (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) provided big games for the Griffins. Hogga flirted with a triple-double with 17 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds. Crabtree's 18 points led all scorers on the night and he added seven assists and three steals for good measure. Sophomore Frank Champion (Northfield, NJ/Mainland) chipped in 14 points and a season-high three blocks in the victory.

Centenary's Larry Lenahan finished with 15 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Corey Kearney and Rob Urie also were in double digits for the Cyclones with each scoring 10 points.

The Griffins tied a season-high with 24 assists and committed just eight turnovers Monday night. They also crashed the offensive boards, tallying 19 which led to 19 second chance points.
