GREENSBORO, N.C. – Shenandoah University came up just short in a 61-57 USA South Conference men's basketball loss at Greensboro Sunday afternoon.

The Pride (8-8, 2-3 USA South) led throughout the game, but had to hold on as SU (3-14, 1-6) cut the deficit to two points in the final 30 seconds.

Adam Powell and Chakiris Moss then each converted one of two from the line, the latter with 1.8 seconds remaining, to help Greensboro clinch the win.

SU had one last opportunity to tie, but an Avery Green to Brandon Bryan lead pass went out of bounds and the Pride was able escape with the win.

Greensboro took a 25-24 lead into the half thanks to a 7-3 run late in the period. With Shenandoah cutting the deficit to just one, 18-17, following a pair of Kevin Kline free throws, GC got an Adam Powell layup and a Chakiris Moss 3-pointer sandwiching a Trevor Jones '3' to open up a three-point lead.

Another layup, this one by Alexander Moore, pushed the home advantage out to five points before SU scored the final three points of the half on a Justin Long jumper and one of two from the line by Mitch Dudley.

Dudley, who was held scoreless for the first time in his career in Saturday's loss at Methodist, had 10 of his game-high 17 boards in the opening half of play.

Kline had 11 of his team-high 19 points in the first.

Powell led the victors with 18 points while Moore had 15 with 14 rebounds.

Shenandoah begins the second round of USA South Conference play on Wednesday with a 7:30 home game against Christopher Newport.
