York, Pa. – Marymount University's men's basketball team opened the second half of Capital Athletic Conference play with a 61-60 road victory at York (Pa.).  The Saints salvage a season split with the Spartans and keep themselves in contention for a CAC Tournament berth.

Freshman Reed Scott led the Saints (4-14, 2-7 CAC) with 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting while adding a team-high six rebounds.  Junior Tarek Ammoury added 12, including the game-winning free throw, while freshman Mac Kennedy chipped in 10 points.

With the game tied at 60-60 with eight seconds remaining, Ammoury went to the line shooting two.  Missing the front end of the pair of free throws, the McLean, Va., native knocked down the second to force the Spartans (12-6, 6-3 CAC) to a mad dash down the length of the floor.  A wild layup by YCP's Julian Watson in traffic missed the mark and sealed the victory for the Saints.

Marymount outshot the Spartans a stellar 59.0 to 30.8 percent, including 50.0 to 23.8% from downtown, but York stayed in contention on the charity strip.  The Spartans converted 23-of-33 free throws while MU knocked down 12-of-14.

Taking control early, the Saints took a 13-3 lead over the first 6:15 of action.  York would go on a 15-4 run to take the lead on a Kevin Whaley three-pointer at the 7:27 mark which sparked a back-and-forth conclusion to the first half.  Never getting more that one possession the rest of the way, senior Bryan DeBruin nailed a pair of free throws with 17 seconds remaining to go into the break tied up at 25-25.

Marymount led for the first 19:23 of the second half after a quick Scott field goal.  Trailing by as many as 10, the Spartans battled back to knot things up with 37 seconds remaining before the Saints closed out the win.

Whaley led York with 18 points while Paul Kouvaris added 14.

The Saints return to the hardwood on Wednesday against CAC rival Mary Washington at 8 p.m.
