FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Host Methodist University used a strong run midway through the second half to key a 78-65 USA South Conference men's basketball victory over Shenandoah.

Senior Kevin Kline had 17 of his game-high 25 points in the second half for the Hornets (3-13, 1-4 USA South), but it was not enough against Methodist (7-10, 2-2).

Trailing 38-34 following a Kline bucket at the 17:35 mark, MU reeled off 14-straight points to take a lead it would not relinquish.

SU missed six field goals (three layups), two free throws and turned the ball over three times during this Monarchs run.

Brandon Bryan finally snapped the streak with a pair of free throws at 12:33, but the damage was done as the Hornets would get no closer than seven points the rest of the way.

In the final 1:43, MU hit 10 of 11 from the line to clinch the victory.

The first half saw Shenandoah jump out to a nine-point lead, 18-9, at the 11:26 mark of the first only to see Methodist take a two-point lead into the break.

SU took that eight-point lead thanks to a 10-1 run over a span of 3:56 and maintained an eight-point advantage until Travis Fulp hit a jumper for the hosts with 7:22 remaining.

Fulp's 10-footer and subsequent 3-pointer nearly four minutes later bookended an 11-2 run that gave the Monarchs their first lead since holding an 8-6 lead 4:25 into the contest .

The two teams found themselves tied on two more occasions before Kyle Combs gave his club the two-point halftime advantage with a baseline jumper at the 31-second mark.

In addition to Kline's 25, Bryan had 16 and Avery Green 10.

Combs led the victors with 17.

SU travels to Greensboro tomorrow for a 4 p.m. USA South Conference contest against the Pride.
