WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Gallaudet University men's basketball team defeated North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opponent SUNY Cobleskill 69-63 Saturday afternoon at the Field House. The highly-touted match-up ended with the two teams flip-flopping in the conference standings; GU is now tied for second place at 7-3 (10-6 overall) while Cobleskill drops to third at 6-3 (6-9 overall). Gallaudet has won three straight games, and is 6-2 at home this season.

The win marks the first time since the 1990-91 season that both the men's and women's basketball teams have 10 or more victories and only the eighth time in the modern era (since the 1970-71 season) that the men's program has reached 10 wins in a season.

The game was a tale of two halves for the Buff and Blue, who trailed 26-24 at halftime, before exploding for 45 points in the second half. Much of their late success was a result of tremendous bench play and outstanding defense. GU's bench outscored Cobleskill's by 21 points in the final 20 minutes and had 12 points off turnovers compared to two for Cobleskill over the same time period. The Bison also had a solid showing at the free throw line. Despite no first-half attempts, Gallaudet was 13-for-15 at the charity stripe, hitting all of their last nine attempts through the final 29 seconds.

Senior guard Luther Weedon (Walkersville, Md.) led all scorers with 19 points, 16 of which came in the second half, including a number of timely 3-pointers down the stretch. Sophomore forward Danny Kelly (Strongsville, Ohio) also had a big day, netting 17 points and grabbing assists rebounds. Kelly was instrumental in the Bison comeback, scoring nine consecutive points to turn a 47-51 deficit into a five-point lead that would never be lost. Junior forward Layton Seeber (Champaign, Ill.) was also a key contributor in the victory with 16 points, eight rebounds and six assists, while playing all 40 minutes.

The Fighting Tigers were led by guard Brendan Doherty's 11 points and five rebounds, while forward Damion Longmore and guard Craig Orner had nine points apiece and pulled down seven and four rebounds, respectively. Cobleskill out rebounded Gallaudet 38-30 and held an 11-3 advantage in the offensive zone.

GU will next host conference foe SUNYIT on Sunday, January 23, at 3 p.m.
