The Millikin men's basketball team had one of its best shooting nights of the season, but it wasn't enough to overcome the undefeated and eighth ranked Augustana Vikings as the Big Blue lost 72-58 in Rock Island on Jan. 19.
Millikin shot 45 percent from the field including going 7-9 (78 percent) from three-point range. Augustana shot 54.5 percent from the field and hit 7-16 from beyond the arc. A big difference in the game came at the free throw line where the Vikings hit 17-24 while Millikin made 7-12. Augustana had a 30-24 rebounding advantage.
The Vikings held a 45-22 advantage at the half. Millikin rallied with a strong second half showing outscoring the Vikings 36-27.
Kyle Taylor was Millikin's top scorer with 14. Jacob Shasteen hit on 4-4 from three-point range to score 12 for Millikin. Matt Merrigan also added 12 with Kelvin Jacobs scoring 10 points and grabbing a team high six rebounds.
Bryant Voiles has the Vikings top scorer with 13 points.
Millikin falls to 1-14, 0-5 while Augustana improves to 16-0, 5-0.
