Pointers Roll Past Blugolds 92-37

STEVENS POINT- The Pointers opened the game on a 33-4 run and rolled to an easy victory, 92-37 over UW-Eau Claire Wednesday night at Bennett Court.

Five Pointers scored in double digits on Wednesday led by Dan Tillema who had 15 points.  Scott Hoelzel added 13 points on six of six shooting.

The other three Pointers scoring in double figures were Jerrel Harris, who had 12 points while Louis Hurd and DeVon Jackson each chipped in with 11 points.

The Pointer defense was dominant in the first half as they held UW-Eau Claire to four points for the first 14:55 of the first half.  The Blugolds shot just 12 percent (3-24) from the field in the first 20 minutes.

After the Pointers took a 45-13 lead into the break they continued to roll in the second half as they ended up with the 55 point victory.

Jordan Brezinski led the team with eight rebounds, while Tillema added six boards.  Brezinski, Harris and Jackson all had three assists to lead the Pointers.

For the game the Pointers shot 56.9 percent from the field (33-58) compared to the Blugolds 26.5 percent (13-49).  The Pointers defense also forced 21 turnovers and committed just ten turnovers themselves.

The Pointers also held a strong edge in points in the paint as they had 56 points in the paint compared to the Blugolds 14 points. 

The win pushed the Pointers to 6-2 in the WIAC as they sit two games back of conference leader UW-River Falls (8-0).

The Pointers will return to action on Saturday when they travel to UW-Oshkosh for a WIAC match-up against the Titans.  Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
