Second half surge leads Gallaudet past Cazenovia

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Gallaudet University men's basketball team defeated North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opponent Cazenovia College 75-49 on Sunday at the Field House. The 26-point win is the second biggest margin of victory this season for the Bison (9-6, 6-3 NEAC). GU has won two straight and is 5-2 at home this season.

The two teams struggled in the first half as they both shot under 31 percent from the field, each missed at least 20 shots, and went into halftime knotted at 25.

The second half was a different story as the Bison found their shooting touch (18-of-29 for 62.1 percent) while Cazenovia (3-11, 3-5) dipped five percentage points down to 24.1 percent (7-for-29) from the field over the course of the final 20 minutes of play. GU outscored Cazenovia 50-24 in the second half.

Junior forward Layton Seeber (Champaign, Ill.) led all-scorers with 19 points and added three rebounds and three assists in the win. Sophomore forward Danny Kelly (Strongsville, Ohio) came off the bench to net 15 points, all in the second half, and grabbed nine rebounds. Senior guard Luther Weedon (Walkersville, Md.) was the other Bison in double figures as he netted 10 points off the bench. Junior guard Brandon McMillan (Frederick, Md.) grabbed a season high 10 rebounds.

The Wildcats were led by guard Cameron Smith's 10 points while forward Robert Rohrig brought down 10 rebounds in the loss. Gallaudet scored 33 points off 28 Cazenovia turnovers and outrebounded the Wildcats 45-36.

GU will next host conference foe SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday, January 22, at 3 p.m.
