WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Gallaudet University men's basketball team had its best shooting game of the New Year as the Bison made 55.6 percent of their shots from the field and connected on 7-of-12 shots (58.3 percent) from 3-point range as the Bison defeated North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) foe Morrisville State College 83-64 on Saturday in the Field House.
Gallaudet's bench outscored the entire Morrisville starting lineup 49-33 as two Bison led the charge in senior guard Luther Weedon (Walkersville, Md.) and sophomore forward Danny Kelly (Strongsville, Ohio) who netted 21 and 25 points, respectively. Kelly was a point shy of tying his career-high of 26 as he made 10-of-14 shots from the field and collected seven rebounds. Weedon's 21 points is a career-high as the sharp shooter made 5-of-6 shots from 3-point range. The senior was a perfect 4-for-4 in the first half from long range as he led all-scorers with 16 points at the break where Gallaudet (8-6, 5-3 NEAC) led 45-37.
Morrisville (4-8, 3-4) regained the lead twice midway through the second half, the last lead was 57-55 at the 11:25 mark, but the Mustangs went cold as the Bison regained the lead and never looked back. Gallaudet went on a 26-2 run over the next 10 minutes to put the game away. The Mustangs committed eight turnovers and missed 11 shots during the span as they only scored two free throws.
Juniors Layton Seeber (Champaign, Ill.) and Tony Tatum (Gardendale, Ala.) were the other Bison to register double figures in points. Seeber scored 12 points, grabbed four rebounds, made three assists, two blocks and two steals in the win. Tatum scored nine of his 11 points in the second half and added four assists and three steals. Every Gallaudet player in uniform got into today's game.
The Mustangs were led offensively by Brandon Hanks' 16 points (10 in the first half) off the bench and guard Wayne Turner's 13 points and six rebounds and six steals. Forward Bryan Eddy (seven points) brought down a game-high 10 rebounds.
