Diplomats Sweep Shoremen; Baker Reaches 1,000

CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- Mike Baker turned in a team-high 21-points and game-high 11 rebounds to lead No. 18 Franklin & Marshall to an 84-71 victory over Washington in Centennial Conference (CC) basketball action Saturday afternoon.  With his third double-double of the season, Baker became just the 32nd member of F&M's 1,000-point club.

The Diplomats (11-4, 6-2 CC) opened up strong, jumping out to 14-3 lead just over four minutes into the contest. F&M never trailed and led by as much as 15 points in the opening stanza.  Steve Tolliver and Baker each had 12 first half points as the F&M took a 40-32 edge into the break.

Washington (4-11, 3-5 CC) outscored F&M 16-12 in the first seven minutes of the second half to come with in four, 52-48, at 13:32. The Diplomats countered with a 19-6 run to take their largest lead, 71-54, with 5:07 remaining in the game.  The Shoremen cut the deficit to ten points, 75-65, with 2:58 remaining, but would not get any closer.

Gerogio Milligan finished with 18 points, five assists and five steals.  Milligan shot 60% from the floor and went 6-for-8 from the stripe.  Tolliver netted 16 while Max Brewer and James McNally finished with nine points. McNally pulled down 10 boards and now two points from becoming F&M's all-time scoring leader.

Kevin Breslin scored a game-high 22 points, while Sal Schittino added 15 points for Washington. 

F&M shot 48% from the floor and hit 30-of-38 from the free throw line.  The Diplomats held a 40-26 edge on the boards and had 14 steals in the victory.

The Diplomats continue their four-game road swing against Dickinson on Wednesday, before returning home against McDaniel on Saturday.
