Hendrix thwarted by second-chance points in 68-56 loss at Centre

DANVILLE, Ky. (Jan. 14) -- Centre College junior Gregg Ross scored 22 points, while senior Alex Lloyd posted a 19 point and 12 rebound double-double to lead the Colonels to a 68-56 win over Hendrix College on Friday evening at Alumni Gymnasium.

Centre (10-3, 5-1 SCAC) scored 20 second-chance points off 14 offensive rebounds and dominated down low with a 26-14 advantage in the paint. The Colonels led the entire game and bridged intermission with a 17-2 run to reach a game-high 15-point advantage, 35-20, with 18:03 left in regulation.

Hendrix (4-10, 0-6 SCAC) fought back from an eight point deficit with 13:16 left in the first half to tie the game at 18-18 with 5:34 to go. Centre would close the opening period on an 11-2 run to take a 29-20 advantage into the locker room.

The Warriors would come as close as six points the rest of the way when junior Nick Heathscott knocked down a layup with 5:14 remaining.

Ross was 8-of-20 from the field and 6-of-8 from the free throw line. Lloyd went 7-of-13 from the field and 5-of-6 from the charity stripe.

Sophomore Jaren Riley led Hendrix with 16 points on 7-of-16 shooting. Senior Ryan Rizos added 11 points and Heathscott scored 10 points. Junior Ammon Martin mixed in seven points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and four assists.

Hendrix falls to 6-27 all-time against Centre. Hendrix will wrap up its weekend at DePauw University on Sunday, Jan. 16 at 2 p.m. ET.
