St. Louis, Mo., January 12, 2011 — Willie Trimble scored 18 of his game-high 22 points in the second half to the lead Webster University to a 61-58 victory over Washington University in St. Louis on Wednesday night at Grant Gymnasium in St. Louis, Mo. The loss for the Bears was their sixth-straight on the road, and dropped their overall record to 6-6.

Junior Dylan Richter led the Bears with 16 points, while junior Alex Toth added 12 points and senior Spencer Gay added 10. The Bears shot 37.9 percent (22-58) from the field in the loss, and hit just 1-of-16 from three-point range.

Webster (9-4) shot 59.3 percent from the field in the second half, including 6-of-10 from three-point range. Trimble's 22 points led all scorers, as he hit 9-of-17 from the field, including 4-of-7 from three-point range. Drew Moore added 10 points and six rebounds off the bench for the Gorloks, who won their sixth-straight game.

A quick start by the Bears saw Washington U. jump ahead 14-2 in the first seven minutes of the contest. Toth had all six of his first-half points during the Bears' early start. Washington U.'s defense limited the Gorloks to just one field goal in the opening seven minutes of play.

A back-door alley-oop dunk by Richter gave Washington U.'s its largest lead of the game at 18-6 with 10:22 remaining, but that would be the Bears final field goal of the first half. Webster took advantage of Washington U.'s offensive woes with a 13-2 run to tie the score at 19-19 with 3:05 left following back-to-back three's by Drew Moore.

Gay and Toth each had six points to lead the Bears, who shot 30.4 percent (7-23) from the field in the first half. Webster shot 29.6 percent (8-27) from the field in the opening half, and had nine turnovers.

Four buckets inside the paint for the Bears early in the second half gave WUSTL a 29-23 advantage with 17:37 left before a timeout by Webster. The Bears held onto the lead until the 13:50 mark of the second half, following a jumper by Robby Meeh.

Trimble then took over the game for Webster, scoring 11-straight points off three three-pointers, putting the Gorloks out in front 47-43. A triple by Cody Bradfish, and then a high-floating three by Trimble made it 53-47 with 8:20 left. Trimble scored 14 points for Webster in a four-minute span.

Senior Caleb Knepper connected on the Bears lone three-pointer of the game with 5:34 left, cutting the Webster lead to 55-52. The lone three-pointer of the game for Washington U. extended its school-record consecutive three-point streak to 351 games. The Bears got the lead down to two (60-58) with 8.7 seconds left following a lay-up by freshman Tim Cooney, but that is close as Washington U. would get.

Washington University (6-6, 0-1 UAA) steps back into conference play on Friday, Jan. 14, against Emory University. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. at the WU Field House.
