(Buffalo, NY) – The Medaille College men's basketball team put on an offensive show as they tallied the second most points in a game in program history when they blew past AMCC foe Mt. Aloysius College (110-77) this evening in the Sullivan Center. The (110) points was one shy of matching the program record which was set in a 2004 win over Cazenovia College.
The Mavs did set a couple of program records in the win. First, the (41) field goals that Medaille knocked down set a new mark, eclipsing the (39) they connected on against the Mounties in January of 2009. The Mavs also dominated the glass tonight, pulling down a program best (62) caroms, ten more than their previous marks set in both 2003 and 2009.
The terrific rebounding for Medaille was sparked by senior Joe Mogavero (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) who continued to be relentless on the glass, finishing with (15) boards to go along with (7) points and (4) assists.
Senior guard Ricky Reed (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) paced Medaille with (23) points in just (19) minutes of action. Reed was a scorching (9 for 11) from the floor and also assisted on four buckets. While fellow guard Angel Flores (Bronx, NY/Samuel Gompers) put together a nice all around performance finishing with (5) points, (6) rebounds and (7) assists.
The Mavs bench was a key factor in the victory with junior Steve Bryant (Lancaster, NY/Bishop Timon) getting the Medaille partisan crowd roaring by drilling home three daggers from behind the arc on a nine point night. Junior David Shuey (Newfane, NY/Newfane) also contributed nine points and did so on (4 of 6) shooting. The Mavs reserves outscored their counterparts (61-35) en route to the win.
The win pushes Medaille to (9-4) overall and they improve to (5-1) in AMCC play. The Mavs will host the conference's top team tomorrow (1/9) when La Roche College brings their ten game win streak and unbeaten AMCC record into the Sullivan Center for a 3:00pm tilt.
