Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Basketball team dropped a CUNY Athletic Conference South Division matchup to the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island earlier today by a score of 78-59 at the West Quad Center. The loss snaps the Bulldogs three-game winning streak as they fall to an even 6-6 overall record and 2-2 in the conference, while the Dolphins remain unbeaten in league play at 3-0, with an 8-3 overall record.
Staten Island came out of the gate on fire opening the game on a 10-0 run, as the Dolphins would never trail in the game. A layup from senior Ahmad Hemingway at the 15:58 mark of the first half broke Brooklyn's scoring drought and got the Bulldogs on the scoreboard. CSI would lead by as many as 19 points in the opening stanza on two occasions, as the visiting Dolphins shot nearly 60% from the field in the half, 19-for-32 (59.4%), to take a 45-27 halftime lead. Brooklyn was held to 33% (11-for-33) shooting from the field in the half. Bloochy Magliore led the Dolphin's offensive surge scoring 13 points off the bench, while connecting on 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Dale Taranto was also in double figures for CSI at the break with 11 points.
The Bulldogs played much better in the second half, shooting 50% from the field (12-for-24), but would be unable to recover from its sluggish first half start, as the Dolphins would go on to cruise to the 78-59 final. Leading the way for Brooklyn in the second half was senior Darnell Cudjoe, who scored all of his team-high 13 points in the closing half. Junior Jose Arroyo also did most of his damage in the second half scoring all seven of his points on the day in the second stanza. Juniors Tyshawn Russell and Amil John finished the day with 11 points apiece. John also finished with six rebounds and five assists. Sophomore Kavon Baker had a solid game with seven points and six rebounds.
For CSI, Jordan Young finished the day with a game-high 20 points to go along with seven rebounds. Taranto and Magliore ended the game with 19 and 18 points, respectively. Thomas Tibbs dished out eight assists, while chipping in with seven points.
Brooklyn returns to action on Monday, January 10th, as the Bulldogs will travel to Wayne, NJ to take on William Patterson University in a non-conference match. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
