TROY, N.Y. (Jan. 6, 2010) – Despite a season-high 22-point performance by junior Mike McSloy (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park), the Maritime men's basketball team dropped its fourth-straight contest Thursday night at Skyline-opponent Sage. The Privateers' record falls to 5-6 overall (3-3 Skyline), while the Gators improve to 5-6 (3-4 Skyline).

Senior Quamel Lyerly (Inwood, N.Y./Lawrence) recorded his first double-double of the season with 14 points and a game-high 11 boards in the losing effort, while classmate Giovanni Hurley (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn) registered 15 points and eight rebounds. Senior Paul Suarino (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) scored nine points and junior Sam Porte (Harlem, N.Y./H.S. for Math, Science & Engineering) brought down nine boards.

Despite the Privateers' coming on strong towards the end of the game and cutting a 13-point second half deficit down to just two points (64-62) with 4:30 remaining in the game, Sage held the lead the for all but the first 15 seconds of the contest. The teams went into the locker rooms with the Gators ahead, 40-35, despite Maritime shooting 40.5-percent to Sage's 40.0-percent. In the second half, the Gators found their mark and shot 48.1-percent and built their lead to as much as 13 (51-38) with 16:29 to play. It would prove to be too much for the Privateers to overcome.

Sage was led by sophomore Ryan Sager, who scored a career-high 22 points, including 18 in the second half. Five players scored in double-digits for the Gators, while Sager led the team with nine rebounds. Sophomore Jeff Stopera contributed 11 assists on the night.

Maritime returns to the court on Saturday, when they will travel to cross-Bronx Skyline-rival Mount Saint Vincent. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Dolphins' Peter Jay Sharp Athletic and Recreation Center.
