Junior Jeff Janssen came off the bench and turned in a career-high 20 points to help lead the Buena Vista men's basketball team to a convincing 81-67 road victory over preseason favorite Loras College (4-9, 1-3 IIAC) on Wednesday night.

Janssen finished 4-of-6 from downtown and 4-of-4 at the free-throw line in just 18 minutes.  Sophomore Troy Ticknor followed with 12 points, while fellow sophomore Wes Nordquist added 10.  Junior Doug Bissen and sophomore Kyle Hooks each turned in seven rebounds for the Beavers, who were out-rebounded 47-30.

BVU, which led wire-to-wire, jumped out to a quick 16-4 lead and seemingly remained in control from there.  After Loras had climed back to within five, the Beavers got back-to-back three pointers from Janssen and Joe Bohan, resepctively, to go in front by 11 midway through the first half and led by double-figures for the remainder of the game.

The team finished the game shooting 46.8 percent from the field, including a 12-of-25 effort from long range, despite connecting on just 11-of-21 free-throws.  It also matched a season-low with 10 turnovers.

The win moves BVU to 6-7 overall (3-1 IIAC) and also gives head coach Brian VanHaaften is 200th career Iowa Conference triumph and 299th overall.  He's now 200-50 in league play and 299-104 overall.  He will go after his 300th career win on Saturday, January 8, when his squad hosts Luther College in a 4:00pm tip-off inside of Siebens Fieldhouse.  The day has also been tabbed as Take a Kid to the Game Day with all children through eighth grade admitted free with a paid adult.
