WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Elms College sophomore forward David McDaniel (Plainfield, N.J.) netted eight points and hauled in a game-best nine rebounds but No. 2 Williams College received a game-high 13-point effort from James Wang (Sydney, Australia) to help pace the host Ephs to a 82-65 victory in Monday evening's Purple and Gold Invitational men's basketball game in Williamstown, Mass.

With the loss, Elms falls to 6-4 on the season while Williams improves 13-0 overall.

Williams got off to a quick start notching a 13-point 21-8 lead highlighted by four three-pointers including one each from Harlan Dodson (Nashville, Tenn.), James Klemm (Highlands Ranch, Co.), Wang and Taylor Epley (Goshen, Ky.) in the first seven minutes of play.

The Ephs led by as many as 22 points (48-26 at the 1:14 mark) and kept at least a nine-point cushion to post a 48-29 lead at intermission.

Elms' sophomore center Carson Miller (New Oxford, Pa.) converted a layup in the opening seconds of the second half before Dodson swished a three-pointer and Klemm drained two from beyond the arc to help the Ephs post a 23-point 57-34 lead – their largest of the game – with 17:40 remaining in the contest.

Trailing 64-44 at the 11:51 mark, the Blazers scored nine unanswered points over the next 4:12 to pull to within 11 at 64-53 with 7:39 to play. McDaniel executed a layup and downed a pair of free throws, senior forward Edgar Martinez (Springfield, Mass.) and senior guard Cecil Avant (Southwest Ranches, Fla.) each hit jumpers and sophomore guard Brittain Purcelle (Tarrytown, N.Y.) hit the front end of two free throws to highlight the stretch.

Elms cut the deficit to 12 points twice thanks to a free throw from Martinez at the 6:23 mark (67-55) and a three pointer from senior forward Juan Alverio (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) to set the score at 71-59 with 3:57 remaining in the game.

Williams responded with a 7-0 run to extend its lead back to 19 points (78-59) with 2:35 on the clock and held on for a 17-point 82-65 victory to remain undefeated on the season.

The Ephs shot a stellar 43.3-percent from three-point range that included a 3 for 5 effort from Dodson and a 3 for 8 showing from Klemm.

Brian Emerson (Arlington, Mass.) was 5 of 7 from the field en route to 11 points, while Michael Mayer (Durham, N.C.) collected a team-high eight boards.

Klemm, Dodson, Epley and Jordan Mickens (Titusville, N.J.) each finished with nine points, while Wang and Nate Robertson (Ann Arbor, Mich.) dished out six and five assists respectively in the win.

Cecil Avant finished with a team-high 10 points and added three assists in 28 minutes off the bench while Alverio and Purcelle followed with nine points apiece. Alverio also handed out a team-high four assists in the loss.

Junior guard Bryant Corcoran (Wolcott, Conn.) netted eight points, while Martinez finished with seven rebounds.

Elms concludes its non-conference slate when it travels to Plattsburgh State University to take on the 20th-ranked Cardinals. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
