Choctaws' Comeback Falls Short at New Orleans, 74-71

NEW ORLEANS, LA - The Mississippi College men's basketball team fell to Division I University of New Orleans, 74-71, on Monday night in Lakefront Arena.  The Choctaws trailed by as many as 13 points in the first half before coming back to lead by as many as 11 points in the second half.

The Privateers jumped out to a 10-0 lead out of the gate after knocking down two free throws before the game started due to a pre-game technical foul on the Choctaws for dunking in warm-ups.  UNO would take their largest lead of the game with 16:01 remaining in the first half at 15-2.

The Choctaws would climb back into the game throughout the first 20 minutes, eventually taking a 35-31 lead into the halftime break.  MC would extend their lead to 44-33 with 17:15 to go in the game before UNO made their comeback.

After taking a 50-39 lead with 14:39 remaining, the Privateers would go on another 10-0 run to cut the deficit to just one point.  The remainder of the game never saw either team grab larger than a four-point lead.

The Choctaws were led by sophomore Cameron Bounds with 18 points on 6-8 shooting from the floor and from the free throw line.  Bounds and senior Ken Black each led MC with seven rebounds with Black tallying 10 points.

Zach Kinsley led UNO with 28 points on 9-13 shooting from the floor and 8-11 shooting from the free throw line.  Ryan Kinsley was the other Privateer in double-figures with 13 points.  Jaroslav Tyrna was the leading rebounder for UNO with nine boards.

The Choctaws will get back into conference play as they travel to Abilene, TX to face McMurry at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday night in Kimbrell Arena.
