IRVING, Texas (Jan. 2) -- Hendrix College junior Nick Heathscott recorded his first double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 boards to led the Warriors to a 71-59 victory over University of Dallas on Sunday afternoon at the Maher Athletic Center.
The Warriors pounded the glass and out-rebounded the Crusaders, 40-28. Hendrix made its trips to the free throw line count and recorded a season-best 88.0 percent (22-of-25). The Warriors also managed to limit its turnovers to just 11.
Hendrix fell behind early but kept its deficit to just four points in the opening minutes. The Warriors would need just one lead change and a 21-2 run over an eight minute span to secure the decision. Senior Ryan Rizos scored five unanswered points to ignite the game-changing run with 12:35 left in the first half.
Hendrix took a 33-24 advantage into the break and would not let its lead slip under nine points the rest of the game. The Warriors eventually led by a game-best 18 points, 52-34, with 11:21 left in regulation.
Heathscott was 7-of-17 from the field and 4-of-4 from the free throw line. He pulled down nine defensive rebounds and two offensive boards. Sophomore Jaren Riley was just two points off his season-high performance against LeTourneau on Thursday, Dec. 30. Riley tallied 16 points on 3-of-4 shooting from the field and a perfect 10-of-10 from the charity stripe. Junior Ammon Martin added nine points and two steals to the mix.
The Warriors improve to 4-6 overall and the Crusaders fall to 2-10 on the season. Hendrix returns home to host Rust College on Tuesday, Jan. 4 at 5 p.m. CT.
