KISSIMMEE, Fla. --- The Colby College men's basketball team had an easy time in the first game of the ECAC Holiday Festival with a 73-49 romp of Vassar College in non-conference play Saturday at the Kissimmee (Fla.) Civic Center.
The game was never in doubt, with the Mules taking a 44-21 halftime lead and then coasting to a 69-29 lead with 9:39 to play after Gordon Fischer nailed a 3-point shot. Vassar (1-7), with Colby substituting liberally, went on a 20-4 to end the game.
Mike Russell finished with 15 points, four rebounds, and three assists for Colby (5-5). Fischer had 11 points, nailed two of his 3-point shots, and had two steals. Kyle Donovan added 10 points on 4-for-5 shooting, Christian Van Loenen finished with nine points and a team-high five rebounds, Uzoma Orchingwa also had nine points on 4-for-7 shooting, and Ben Foreman finished with seven points.
The Mules shot 53 percent (28-for-53) from the field and held Vassar to just 35 percent (16-for-46) shooting. Caleb McGraw had 15 points and three assists in a losing cause.
Colby will play against University of Massachusetts at Boston in its final game in Florida on Sunday at 1 p.m. (new time).
