Wheaton men top Husson 85-53 in Arizona

Phoenix, Ariz. – The Wheaton Thunder men's basketball team wrapped up the non-conference portion of its regular season schedule on Friday night with an 85-53 victory against Husson University (9-2). Wheaton is now 9-2 on the season, and will open up conference play next Wednesday night when Carthage College visits King Arena for a 8 PM tipoff.

 

Husson led the Thunder 10-9 with 14:45 remaining in the first half when the 'Orange and Blue" put together a 23-6 scoring run to gain a 31-16 lead with 5:22 remaining in the opening half. Wheaton led 42-22 at halftime and continued its strong performance into the second half. Wheaton's largest lead of the game was a 38-point bulge at 85-47 with 2:53 remaining in the game.

 

For the second straight night Andrew Jahns led the Thunder in scoring. The senior captain registered 20 points on 7-for-9 shooting from the field, with a pair of three-point field goals. Tim McCrary scored 14 points, with eight rebounds and six assists. Spencer Schultze tallied 12 points, with five rebounds. Jeremy Pflederer scored 11 points, with four assists, while Jon DeMoss recorded eight points.

 

Josh Jones led Husson with a team-high 15 points, and was the only Eagle player to tally double-digits in points.  Jones also led Husson with eight rebounds.

 

Wheaton posted a 51.9% (28-54) field goal percentage, with 54.5% (6-11) from three-point range and 69.7% (23-33) at the free throw line. Husson shot 37.3% (19-51) from the field, with 14.3% (2-14) from behind the three-point arc and 56.6% (13-23) at the charity stripe. The Thunder out-rebounded Husson 36-31, with an 11-10 edge on the offensive glass.
