Heathscott and Riley lead Hendrix to 75-61 victory over LeTourneau

CONWAY, Ark. (Dec. 30) -- Hendrix College junior Nick Heathscott and sophomore Jaren Riley posted season-high performances with 26 and 18 points, respectively, to lead the Warriors to their second win of the season against LeTourneau University, 75-61, on Thursday night at Grove Gymnasium.

Heathscott dominated the paint and was 8-of-13 from the field including 10-of-13 from the charity stripe. Riley knocked down pull up jumpers and earned trips to the free throw line by driving the lane. He was 5-of-8 from the field and 8-of-10 from the line.

First year Colton Primm played solid minutes in his first collegiate start. He scored 10 points, grabbed four rebounds and made four blocks. Primm was 3-of-4 from the field and 4-of-6 from the free throw line. Senior James Ewing scored eight points and dished out a game-high five assists.

The Warriors pounded the ball inside early and often, earning trips to the charity stripe and giving the Yellowjackets fould trouble. Hendrix had 41 chances from the line and LeTourneau had two players foul out. The Warriors dominated the glass and outrebounded their opponent 43-27.

The Warriors led the entire first half and led by as much as seven points on two occasions. However, the Yellowjackets narrowed their deficit and drained a last-second 3-pointer to take a 32-30 advantage into the locker room.

Hendrix kept its composure and continued to run its game plan during the second half. The Warriors pulled away with a 12-0 run to lead 46-33 with 14:38 remaining. Hendrix eventually led by a game-high 16 points, 67-51, on a pair of free throws from Riley with 6:13 left in regulation.

The Warriors improve to 3-6 overall and the Yellowjackets fall to 1-9 on the season. Hendrix will be back in action on Jan. 2 when the team travels to University of Dallas for a 3 p.m. CT affair.
