Buena Vista Cruises Past St. Scholastica, 70-55

Sophomore Troy Ticknor buried seven three-point buckets and finished with a team-high 24 points to help lead a Buena Vista men's basketball team, which used a strong second half surge, get past St. Scholastica on Thursday afternoon, 70-55.

Ticknor connected on 7-of-13 from downtown and now has 99 made three-pointers for his career.  He also sank 3-of-4 at the free-throw line and grabbed four rebounds.  Fellow sophomore Wes Nordquist, who turned in a career-high 29 points on Tuesday night, followed with 12 points and nine rebounds.  Junior Doug Bissen and freshman Michael Kaufmann each posted 10 points with Bissen also grabbing seven boards.

BVU connected on just 33 percent of its field goal attempts in the opening half before shooting 12-of-27 in the second half, including 5-of-11 from long range.  It also sank 18-of-25 at the free-throw line for the game and out-rebounded St. Scholastica, 40-30.

The win moves the Beavers to 5-7 on the year and gives head coach Brian VanHaaften his 298th career triumph.  The team will now return to Iowa Conference play on Wednesday, January 5, when it travels to Dubuque, Iowa, to take on preseason favorite Loras College in an 8:00pm tip-off.
