Springfield, Ohio (12/29/10) – Senior Jonathan Jones scored his 12th straight double-double of the season but it wasn't enough as the Kean University men's basketball team fell to host Wittenberg University, 74-60, Wednesday evening at the Charles Zimmerman Memorial Classic.

Jones recorded a game-high 23 points to go along with 10 rebounds as Kean had their three-game win streak snapped. The Tigers (5-4) dominated the first seven minutes of the first half, as they sprinted to a 16-0 lead before the Cougars (8-4) got on the board with a bucket by freshman Tim Steward with 13:28 to go. From there both teams played evenly as the Cougars headed into the locker room trailing by the same 16 point deficit, 39-23 at the break. Jones and rookie Michael Burton both had seven points to led KU in the first 20 minutes of play.

After falling behind by as many as 20, Kean slowly starting chipping away and brought the deficit down to single digits as freshman Kenny Pace hit a trey with 8:59 to go to cap off a 7-0 run and put the score at 54-47. The Cougars would only get as close as five as freshman Kyle Latorre made a layup with 7:10 on the clock before Wittenberg ended the game on an 18-9 run to seal the win.

Kean was at the free throw line for just five attempts the whole night compared to 31 for the Tigers with a large 24-8 discrepancy in total fouls. Wittenberg also held a 46-32 advantage in total rebounds.

The Cougars will now face Heidelberg University in the consolation matchup at 2:15 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.
