MADISON, N.J. (December 18, 2010) - TCNJ's Kyle Rawson's only three point attempt of the second half hit nothing but net with just 12 ticks left in the game to give the Lions a 67-66 win over the Rangers this afternoon. Sophomore Dylan Bulger (Staten Island, N.Y./Staten Island Academy) recorded his second career double-double and tied a career-high with four blocks in the loss.
Drew (4-5) held a seven point advantage with just under five minutes to play but clutch free throw shooting by TCNJ (3-7) down the stretch helped Lions chip away and pull within two points at the 1:52 mark. Freshman Luke Glass (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) hit a three with 1:22 on the clock to put the Rangers up five but the Lions would respond with a three from the top of the key on the ensuing possession to make the score 66-64 with 1:11 on the clock.
Glass would miss his next attempt after running the shot clock all the way down but sophomore Terrell Brown (Camden, N.J./Woodrow Wilson) skied for the his 10th rebound and kept the Rangers possession. After a timeout the Rangers had trouble inbounding the ball and were called for a travel with 24 seconds remaining on the clock.
With the ball now in the Lions' hands, it was clear they were going for the win looking to setup a three point shot. Donovan Smalls of TCNJ would get the first attempt swatted by senior Mike Mayes (Linden, N.J./St. Mary's). Off the inbound Rawson was freed up on the right wing and sunk the gamewinner with 12 seconds left.
After connecting on the three Rawson also came up on defense as he came up with a steal in the final seconds to seal the win for the Lions.
The Rangers had thee Players in double figures as junior Asmar Capers (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) led all scorers with 20 points and a game-high seven assists. Glass finshed the game with 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting.
The Rangers will look to climb back to the .500 mark after the New Year when they participate in the NYU tournament on January 2nd.
