SALEM, Ore. – Another double-double performance by LeMar Anglin (Sr., Chicago, Ill.) was not enough to allow Pacific to enact a measure of revenge on Corban Friday night as the Boxers fell in overtime to the Warriors, 80-77, in men's basketball action at the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
Anglin poured in 26 points and 11 rebounds, connecting on 8 of 12 from the field and 10 of 12 from the free throw line, to lead four Pacific players in double figures. It was his fourth double-double of the season, but not enough to allow the Boxers (2-5) a season split with the Warriors.
Playing in their first game in 13 nights, the Boxers saw the Warriors (9-4) pull away from a close first half to open up an 11-point lead on Erik Cronrath's lay-in at the 11:56 mark of the second half. The Boxers responded by scoring the next 11 points, tying the game at 55-55 on a Carson Bartlett (Jr., St. Helens, Ore.) lay-in.
Corban took the lead right back and managed to cling to a three-point advantage until back-to-back jumpers by Andrew Beatty (Jr., Lynnwood, Wash.) and Anglin put the Boxers back ahead, 63-62, with 3:17 to go. Adam McElwee (So., Woodinville, Wash.) made it a four-point advantage with his rebound and put-back with 2:17 left. The lead was three points in favor of the Boxers when Jordan Carter connected on a three-pointer with eight seconds left to tie it at 71-71 and force overtime.
While Pacific tried to win it at the three-point line, the Warriors won it at the free throw line as they hit 5 of 8 from the charity stripe in the extra period. Corban built a 77-73 lead on a Carter free throw with 33 seconds left, and countered a pair of Pacific lay-ins with two more free throws with eight seconds left. Pacific had a chance to tie it at the horn, but McElwee's three-point attempt went long.
Bartlett added 16 points for the Boxers on 7 of 14 from the field to go along with seven rebounds for the Boxers. McElwee connected for 13 points and Beatty scored 10. Pacific shot 38.9 percent from the field (28-72) and 75 percent from the free throw line (18-24), but managed just 3 of 24 from the arch. Pacific out-rebounded Corban 43-37 and finished with 20 offensive boards.
Carter led Corban with a big night of his own, scoring 28 points on 10 of 18 from the field to go along with 10 rebounds. Ian Logan scored 15, Cronrath added 13 and Jonathan Ramirez added 11. Corban finished the night shooting 45.8 percent from the field (27-59), 7 of 20 from three-point range (7-20) and 70.4 percent from the free throw line (19-27).
Pacific returns home to the Stoller Center for the first time in nearly a month on Saturday when they host Holy Names. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
