Hawk, Farrell, Ashworth Come To The Forefront Again In Royals' 77-64 Victory Over Cabrini Wednesday At The Long Center

More news about: Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa.—The University of Scranton trio of senior guards Luke Hawk (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) and Zach Ashworth (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) and sophomore guard Travis Farrell (Middletown, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) came to the forefront again in the Royals' 77-64 victory over Cabrini College Wednesday evening at the Long Center.

After combining for 81 points in Monday's 94-90 victory over Kean University, Hawk, Ashworth and Farrell combined for 63 points and 23 rebounds as the Royals shut down the Cavaliers in the second half to erase a one-point halftime deficit.

Hawk finished with 23 points and seven rebounds, Farrell added 20 points and nine boards, and Ashworth scored 18 points—all in the second half—and pulled down seven rebounds as Scranton won its fourth straight game to improve to 6-2.

Sophomore guard Cory Lemons (Wilmington, Del./Glasgow) led the Cavaliers, now 4-2, with 14 points and senior forward Dom Farrello (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) and sophomore guard A.J. Williams (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) added 12 apiece.

The Royals shut down the Cavaliers in the second half after Cabrini controlled the tempo throughout much of the first half and shot nearly 47 percent from the field to take a 33-32 halftime lead.  Scranton did a better job of stopping the Cavaliers' dribble penetration in the second half, forcing them to settle for perimeter jump shots.  Cabrini made less than 37 percent of its field goal attempts in the final 20 minutes of play.

Scranton finally got the spurt it needed when Hawk hit a pair of free throws and Ashworth and Farrell buried back-to-back 3-pointers during a 14-3 run that extended a 58-55 lead with 6:11 remaining to a 14-point cushion, 72-58, with 1:53 left.  Ashworth, who was 0-for-5 from the field in the first half, connected on 4 of 8 field goal attempts, including 2 of 4 from beyond the 3-point arc, to get untracked on the offensive end in the second half.  His 18 points put him over the 1400 mark (1403) for his career.

In his last three games, Hawk is averaging 26.7 points while shooting 64.4 percent from the field.  Farrell has also been on a hot streak, averaging 17.3 points and 6.7 rebounds during this same span.

The Royals will break for the holidays before taking on Ramapo College (NJ) on Tuesday, December 28, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
