ST. MARY'S CITY, Md.--The Hood College men's basketball team (4-4, 2-2 CAC) fell to the No. 14 St. Mary's College (Md.) Seahawks (7-2, 3-0 CAC), 87-58, Saturday afternoon in Capital Athletic Conference action.

The first-place Seahawks connected on their first seven shots from the field, including a pair of triples, to take a 16-8 lead a little more than four minutes in. SMCM stretched its lead to 23-8 until a jumper from the left wing by junior Herb Bowen halted the Seahawk spurt. The Blazers hit just 5-of-22 from the field in the opening stanza and trailed 49-21 at intermission. Despite the eventual setback, the Blazers matched the Seahawks' scoring output in the second half, sinking 13-of-25 (52 percent) from the field.

Senior Tyler Snoots finished with game-high scoring honors with 18 points and was a rebound shy of a double-double. First-year Justin Bowens set a career-high with 12 points, including 8-of-9 from the foul line. Junior LaVar Rich saw his first action as a Blazer, playing 18 minutes and hitting 3-of-5 from the floor and 5-of-8 from the stripe for 11 points. He also had four rebounds, a block and a steal.

St. Mary's buried 10 three-pointers on the night and had three players in double figures, led by Mikey Fitzpatrick's 12 (5-for-5).

The Blazers return to the Odom Fitness Center Saturday hosting nonconference rival Washington College at 2 p.m.
