(Buffalo, NY) – The Medaille College men's basketball team hosted a very strong Clarkson University squad who came into the game with a (5-1) record on a frigid night in Buffalo.  The Mavs jumped out early and carried momentum into the locker room with an eleven point lead at the break en route to an (88-73) non-conference victory.

The Mavs received critical help from up and down their bench in a game that saw a big Medaille lead trimmed to one point midway through the second half.  Strong defense combined with hot shooting down the stretch enabled the Mavs to earn their sixth win in the last seven games.

Seniors Ron Malicki (Machias, NY/Pioneer) (19 points -  2 blocks) and Joe Mogavero (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) (16 points – 8 rebounds) each played critical roles in the win.  Mogavero was (6 for 10) from the floor.

A milestone moment would occur in the games waning seconds when senior Ricky Reed (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) knocked down a free throw for his ninth point of the game.  That tally from the charity stripe would mark the (1,000th) point of his career, making him the 7th player in program history to reach that historic number.

Junior point guard Angel Flores (Bronx, NY/Samuel Gompers) played an outstanding game as he tallied (14) points, dished out (5) assists and pulled down (4) rebounds.  He also came up with a critical steal when the Mavs were making their game winning run that resulted in a terrific transition basket that ignited the Maverick bench and crowd.

Another spark in this game was Anthony Battaglia (Lancaster, NY/Depew) who hit a pair of three's that pulled the Mavs out of a slump, he then knocked down a pretty jumper from the elbow to help the Mavs keep momentum.  He finished with (10) points.

The win pushes Medaille to (6-3) on the year.  They will face Ursinus College on Wednesday (12/29) at 7:00pm in a tournament on the campus of Hampden-Sydney College.
