Cobbers shoot past men's basketball

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Concordia College-Moorhead built a 23-point halftime lead and held off St. Olaf for a 83-73 MIAC men's basketball win on Saturday at Skoglund Center.

Darrin Olmscheid had 19 of his game-high 23 points in the first half as Concordia shot 62.5 percent from the field (20-of-32) on the way to a 53-30 lead at the break.

The Oles (6-3, 1-3 MIAC) were led by Stu Neville's 19 points and 14 rebounds. St. Olaf cut the Cobber lead to nine on a 16-4 run in the opening minutes of the second half. Concordia countered with seven straight to open the lead back to 16.

St. Olaf got as close as seven in the final two minutes on back-to-back jumpers by Nathan Kuck, but came away empty on the next four possessions. Kuck finished with a season-best 15 points.

John Fraase added 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Cobbers (4-4, 1-3 MIAC) in the victory.
