FARMINGTON, Maine -- Senior forward Eric Taylor (Oakland, Maine) netted his 1,000th career point as the University of Maine at Farmington men's basketball team notched a 66-51 non-conference win over University of New England today at Dearborn Gymnasium.

Farmington (2-5) is slated to host University of Maine at Presque Isle Sunday. The women's game is scheduled for 1 p.m. followed by the men's. The Nor'easters (2-7) are scheduled to host WPI on Jan. 2.

Taylor is the 23rd player in school history to reach the 1,000-point milestone. Entering the game at 998 points, the senior laid in a baseline pass by Andrew Dean (Gorham, Maine) with 14:26 left in the first half for his 999th and 1,000th points.

Dean finished with 17 points, including five 3-pointers, while Taylor turned in a double-double of 13 points and 13 boards. The Beavers connected on 47.1 percent (24-51) from the field, while UNE was at 37.5 percent (18-48).

Marcus Winn (Austin, Texas) led the Nor'easters with a game-high 19 points, while Chas Rentrope (Peoria, Ariz.) and Ryan Knotek (Saratoga Springs, N.Y) each had 12 points.

The two teams traded the advantage over the first 15 minutes with the sixth tie of the frame coming at 24-24 with 5:04 until intermission. Dean highlighted a 10-0 half-closing run with five points as the Beavers took a 34-24 lead into the break.

Taylor canned a pair of free throws to continue the stretch into the second half with a Rentrope layup ending the cold spell with 18:31 left in the game. Farmington continued to built the lead with a Pet Sumner (Cramerton, N.C.) three with 10:19 remaining pushing the advantage to 50-31.

UNE clawed back into the contest with a pair of Winn threes on back-to-back trips cutting Farmington's lead down to 54-48. A 9-0 run with a pair of triples for Dean and a conventional three-point play by Taylor helped the hosts gain distance en route to the 66-51 victory.
