Olivet men’s basketball team loses to Grand Valley, 79-45

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Olivet College men's basketball team was defeated by NCAA Division II rival Grand Valley State University, 79-45, tonight at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena in Allendale.

After a 10-10 tie at the 11:26 mark, the Lakers went on a 16-0 run over the next six minutes to take a 26-10 lead. Olivet ended the run with a three-pointer by junior Jaren Edsall (Whitehall). Grand Valley then scored 13 of the last 20 points of the half to take a 39-20 lead into the locker rooms. The Comets trimmed their deficit down to 16 points, 48-32, with 14:08 mark and they would not get any closer for the rest of the game.

Senior Michael McClary (Bellaire) led Olivet with 19 points. Senior Nathan Jennings (Grant) joined him in double figures with 12 points. McClary and senior Joe Post (Olivet) each grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.

For Grand Valley, four players reached double digits in the scoring column. Justin Ringler paced the Lakers with 13 points, followed by K'Len Morris (12), Asauhn Tatum (10) and Nick Waddell (10). Ringler and Breland Hogan had six rebounds apiece.

Olivet (5-3) will take the rest of this week off for fall semester exams and return to action Saturday, Dec. 11, at Spring Arbor University at 3 p.m.
