SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Norwich men's basketball team fell short to Trinity College in the first game of the Western New England Golden Bears' Men's Hoop Classic on Saturday, as the Bantams took Game One of the tournament from the Cadets, 77-50.
For the Norwich, junior Antonio Davis was a key contender for the Cadets, as he scored 18 points, followed by senior Jaren Jeffcoat who tallied 11 points on the night. Davis went 6-of-12 in shooting, netting 4-of-6 shots from the free-throw line and making two steals on the Bantams, one assist, and seven boards.
Jeffcoat shot for 4-of-9 in the game, going for a perfect 2-for-2 from the free-throw line and sinking one 3-pointer in the game. He recorded three steals against the Bantams and was attributed with one assist.
Freshman Pim Smulders made his first collegiate start at center for Norwich, earning an assist and his first Cadet point when he was fouled to the line.
Norwich (0-2) will play their second game of the Classic tomorrow at 1 p.m. Their opponent is dependent on the outcome of the Western New England vs. Lesley game, currently being played at 8:15 p.m. tonight.
