Waterville, ME -- The Thomas College Men's Basketball (3-4, 0-0 NAC) made history tonight as they defeated cross town Colby (4-4) for the first time in school history 81-80. Thomas sophomore guard Jarrad DeVaughn (Brockton, MA) led the Terriers with a game-high 25 points in a wild game that saw the Terriers give up a 15 point halftime lead only to pull out the win in dramatic fashion.
The Terriers led the Mules 81-76 with 1:17 to play; but Colby went out swinging as Mike Russell put up two with 1:06 left to play. After a Terriers turnover, Colby's Kyle Donovan hit two free throws to bring the Mules within one with 47 seconds remaining, With 34 seconds left the Terriers turned over the ball again, but the Mules gave it right back with 15 seconds on the clock. Two seconds later the Mules again gained possession of the ball after a Terriers turnover. The Mules attempted three shots in the final 13 seconds of play; after a Stanley Green Jr. (Dorchester, MA) rebound on the third shot, the Terriers were able to loft the ball in the air for the final two seconds and the victory.
The win was also Head Coach, T.J. Maines' (Colby '95) first victory over his Alma Matter.
DeVaughn shot 8-for-13 from the filed and was 4-for-7 from three point land; DeVaughn also added eight rebounds and four assists. Senior Andrew Duncanson (Portland, ME) scored 14 points and snatched seven rebounds. Sophomore Francisco Alicea (Foxboro, MA) finished the night with 11 points and Freshmen Greene Jr. and Franklin Salvador (Somerville, MA) both came off the bench to put up nine points for the Terriers.
The Terriers will be hitting the road this weekend as they travel Regis College where they will take on Wheaton (MA) (0-4) on Friday December 10th to kick off the Regis College Tournament.
