Early turnovers cost Hendrix in 72-57 loss to Austin

CONWAY, Ark. (Dec. 5) -- Austin College initiated a full-court press early and turned Hendrix College's 10 first-half turnovers into 15 points to grab the early momentum. The Roos scored 12 points off the fast break and outscored the Warriors 40-22 in the paint to earn the 72-57 victory on Sunday afternoon at Grove Gymnasium.

Austin had four players in double figures with sophomore Walter Phillips leading the way at 22 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the field. Junior Scott Straley added 13 points and junior Josh Saunders mixed in 12 points, while first year Jordan Hancock collected 10 points. The Roos finished with 11 steals and nine blocks.

Austin owned a 41-18 lead at intermission and would not let up after the break, eventually leading by a game-high 31 points (52-21) with 13:11 left in regulation.

Hendrix was led by juniors Chris GoodmanAmmon Martin (pictured) and Scott Sherrill with nine points apiece. Goodman and senior Ryan Rizos led the team with four assists each, while Sherrill paced the squad with seven rebounds.

Hendrix will take the next 12 days off from competition and pick things back up at Millsaps College on Nov. 17 at 3 p.m. CT.
