N.C. Wesleyan tops Panthers 76-66

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - LaGrange College lost 76-66 to N.C. Wesleyan on Saturday. The loss dropped the Panthers to 0-8 this season.

Denzel Robinson scored a game-high 19 points off the bench for the Panthers. Robinson was 8-for-14 from the floor and 2-of-3 at the free throw line.

Stephen Tuck and Marcus Vaughn each had 12 points. Vaughn had a double-double with a game-high 11 rebounds. Nic Whitfield added 10 points.

N.C. Wesleyan (4-4) got 18 points each from Matt Dougherty and Alex Murray. Domarius Thomas had 10 points.

The game was tied six times in the first half. Tuck hit a 3-pointer to put the Panthers up 24-21 with eight minutes left in the half.

Justin Griffith's layup put the Bishops up 25-24 with 4:46 left in the half. The Bishops would not trail again and led 37-30 at the half.

The Panthers fell behind by as many as 11 to start the second half. Robinson cut the Bishops' lead to four, 52-48, after completing a three-point play with 13 minutes left.

Later in the half, Tuck hit a pair of free throws to make it a three point game, 60-57, with five minutes left. Murray scored off a layup and Doughtery's jumper pushed the Bishops' lead to nine, 68-59, with 3:28 left.

The Panthers shot 38.1 percent in the game. They made 4-of-18 3-point attempts. The Bishops shot 51.9 percent for the game.

The Panthers play at Greensboro (N.C.) College on Sunday.
