ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick's men's hoop team rolled in the second half and pulled away from visiting Morrisville State 75-56 on Saturday at Lambros Arena. Freshman Jared Suderely (Newport, NY/West Canada Valley) scored 15 of his game-high 25 points in the second session and he contributed a career-high 13 rebounds in the game as the Hawks snapped a three-game winless streak and got back to .500 with a 3-3 season mark.
Suderely made nine of 15 shots from the floor and made all seven free-throw attempts in the contest. He added seven of the Hawks' 12 offensive rebounds and dished two assists. Junior Chris Ryder (Port Washington, NY/Port Washington) added 15 points and eight rebounds. Freshman Anthony Keane (Staten Island/Monsignor Farrell) scored 10 points to go along with four rebounds, three blocked shots, two steals, and two assists.
Hartwick shot 55% as a team in the second half after connecting on only 38% of its shots in the opening half of play. The Hawks also made 63% of their three-pointers in the final 20 minutes after a 18% showing in the opening period.
The Hawks had a difficult time shaking the pesky Mustangs for much of the game. The score was tied seven times and the lead changed hands on 13 occasions. 'Wick led by just two points, 47-45, with 11 minutes to play, but back-to-back three-pointers from Travis Godley (Putnam, CT/Putnam Science) and Martin McCann (Hopewell Junction, NY/Lourdes) extended the Hawk edge to eight points with under 10 minutes to go.
A Christian Laputka (Freeland, PA/Hazelton Area) layup made it a double-digit lead and following a Morrisville basket with 8:49 on the clock, the Hartwick defense did not allow another Mustang field goal for nearly six minutes. The Hawks outscored Morrisville 12-3 over the span, opening up a 17-point lead with just over three minutes remaining and cruised the rest of the way.
Morrisville was led by Dwayne Wade's 15 points. Brandon Henry added 14. Hodges Sneed grabbed a team-best seven rebounds.
The Hawks travel to city rival Oneonta State for their next game on Tuesday, December 7th. Tip Off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
